Kolaches, bread, muffins and more rising on the East side! Breakfast is ready!
Yeast Nashville features authentic Czech-style kolaches and other baked goods to the coolest neighborhood on the planet! For those of you who aren't familiar with kolaches, here's a little background info on these tasty treats.
A bohemian/traditional kolache is a Czech/Slovak pastry, similar to a Danish, comprised of a sweet, yeast-based dough with a fruit, poppy seed, or cheese filling.
In the early 1800s, north-central Texas became the new home to many Czech/Slovak immigrants. While these new Texans staked their claim in a new land they continued many of the customs and traditions of their homeland - kolaches being one of them (thankfully!). But they couldn't leave well enough alone and added their own twist to the recipe, taking the kolache dough and wrapping it around meat (sausage is most common) or stuffing it with a savory filling such as eggs or vegetables, or cheese, and then baking them. While traditionalists will say these aren't "true" kolaches, we like to call them "Tex-Czech" kolaches!
Over the years, visitors to these small Texas towns couldn't get enough of these tasty treats and kolache shops began popping up all over the state. Today, kolaches are a breakfast/snack mainstay throughout Texas and, over the last several years, outside of the Lone Star State as well. Yeast Nashville is bringing that tradition to a new home right here in Nashville!
Whether it's a Bohemian or Tex-Czech, kolaches are a tasty way to start your day and a nice little snack anytime! In addition to kolaches, Yeast Nashville will also offer other savory and sweet baked goodies and freshly baked breads. You never know what specials Sara and the other kolache mammas might be baking for the day so be sure to follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
